You can block websites (URLs) for your Android users using the managed configurations. This allows you to prevent users from accessing these websites in the work profile or on fully managed devices in browsers such as Google Chrome.
Aim
In this How-To, we will show you how to deny users access to certain websites.
Implementation
- Add the Google Chrome app in the app management. Proceed as described in our help article Add Android apps from the Google Play Store.
- Then assign the app to the desired users/groups/devices. Proceed as described in our help article Assign Android apps to the users/groups.
Attention! Google Chrome is usually automatically assigned to Android devices during enrollment as a fully managed device or when creating a work profile. You must still assign the app manually if you want to make changes to the managed configurations.
- Then select Google Chrome in the left-hand column of the app management (left arrow in illus.) and open the Managed configurations tab.
- Click on Create in the right-hand column (right arrow in illus.).
- Create a managed configuration as described in our help article Creating Managed Configurations for Android apps.
- Scroll down to Block access to a list of URLs and click on Configure.
- Then enter (comma-separated) all URLs that your users are not allowed to access (example in the image, left arrow). Follow the instructions from Google regarding the URL scheme.
- Then save the managed configuration (right arrow in illus.).
- Now select the new managed configuration (left arrow in illus.) and assign it to the desired users or groups (right arrow in illus.).
As soon as users have been assigned both the Google Chrome app and the managed configuration, the corresponding websites can no longer be accessed on Android devices.
