Does your firm use special apps that may not be compatible with a new iOS version? In this How To we’d like to show you how you can delay software updates up to 90 days for iOS supervised devices.
Aim
The aim is to defer an upcoming iOS update on your supervised devices. A policy is created for this purpose in the Cortado Administration Portal from version 9.6 of Cortado Server or Cortado MDM. The policy works by delaying the appearance of software updates for the user. The user only sees the software update when a specified number of days have elapsed after the software update release.
For older versions of Cortado Server, you can instead create such a policy using Apple Configurator 2 (see below).
Implementation
From version 9.6
- Select Administration→ Policies in the Administration Portal.
- Click on the plus button to create a new Policy (arrow in illus.).
- Then select iOS/iPadOS.
- Keep the supervised devices enrollment method (arrow in the illus.).
- Check the checkbox
- Defer software updates for … Days (1-90) (left arrow in illus.).
- Then, under OS update delay (in days) specify the number of days you would like to defer the update (right arrow in illus.).
- Click on Assign (right arrow in illus.) to assign the new Policy (left arrow in illus.) to the desired users/groups/devices.
For older Cortado Server versions
In our How To How to create an iOS policy with Apple Configurator you learned how to create new policies (Controls) with Apple Configurator 2. In the following we want to show you which policy should be used to delay software updates on supervised devices.
- Create a new profile with Apple Configurator 2. Proceed with this as described here.
- Select Restrictions→Defer software updates for … days (supervised only).
- Enter in the number of days the update should be deferred (arrow in illus.).
- Save the new policy and go back, then proceed further as described here.
