How to create a Google Firebase project for Android Enterprise (optional)

Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) is a free service that allows data to be sent to Android apps from servers. Android Enterprise uses this service for mobile device management.

Aim

The aim is to create a Firebase project for the use of FCM. FCM can be used to push policies and profiles to users' mobile devices instantly.

Implementation

Note! Creating a Google Firebase project is an option. Google Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) can be used to immediately push policies and profiles to the users’ devices. If FCM is not used, the user devices can be synchronized at intervals determined by you (Device synchronization).

To obtain such a key, please perform the following steps:

  • Create a Google Firebase project with the appropriate Google server key and sender ID.
  • To do so, open the following link: https://console.firebase.google.com.
  • Login with your Google account.
  • Then select Add project (arrow in illus.).

  • Enter a project name and click on Continue (arrows in illus.).

  • Disable Google Analytics (left arrow in illus.) and click on Create project (right arrow in illus.).

  • Your new project is ready. Proceed by clicking on Continue.

  • Select the Settings (left arrow in illus.) and then click on Project settings (right arrow in illus.).

  • Under Cloud Messaging (upper arrow in illus.), enable the Cloud Messaging API (Legacy) by clicking Manage API in Google Cloud Console (lower arrow in illus.).

  • This will automatically redirect you to the Google Cloud Platform. Click Enable here (arrow in illus.).

  • Then switch back to the Google Firebase web page and refresh your browser. The Cloud Messaging API (Legacy) is now enabled (upper arrow in illus.).
  • Here you will now find your Server key (middle arrow in illus.) and your Sender ID (lower arrow in illus.).
